Care built the way we would want it for our own family.
A Care Of Joy is a small, licensed adult family home in University Place, Washington. This is why we opened it and how we care.

Why a small home
Large communities are built around schedules. A home is built around people. We chose an adult family home because it lets a handful of residents live with the same few caregivers, eat at the same table and keep the rhythm of a household: mornings that start when you wake, meals cooked in the kitchen, evenings that wind down slowly.
Washington licenses and inspects adult family homes, and ours is licensed for six residents. We welcome that. It keeps the home the size it should be: small enough that no one is ever just a room number.
How we care
Every resident has a written care plan agreed with them, their family and their doctor, and reviewed as needs change. Personal care, medication management, meals, laundry and housekeeping are included. Caregivers are trained and certified, and one is awake all night.
We treat residents with compassion, respect, dignity and honour. That means asking, not telling; knocking before entering; keeping preferences on the menu; and making family welcome whenever they can come.
The rhythm of the house
Wake when you wake
Help with bathing and dressing at each resident’s pace, medications with breakfast, and the newspaper or the news on the TV.
A proper lunch, together
Cooked in our kitchen and eaten at the family table. Afternoons are for visitors, activities, the garden or a rest.
Wind down slowly
Dinner, a quiet living room, help getting ready for bed, and a caregiver who stays awake through the night.

The people behind the home
Morena Joy Tang, the owner and primary caregiver, brings 16 years of hospital experience to a home where she is present every day. Meet her and the team, read about their training, and then come and meet them in person.
The best way to know is to visit.
Tours are by appointment. Meet the caregivers, see the rooms and stay for a cup of coffee.
